Nominations are open for award honoring journalists
whose work has improved society
2010 Knight International Journalism Award now focuses on impact
We are seeking nominations of professional or citizen journalists whose reporting has made a significant difference in the lives of their fellow citizens. This honor reflects the mission of the Knight International Journalism Fellowships. The Fellowships aim to produce tangible changes that improve the quality and free flow of news in the public interest around the world. The deadline for nominations is April 2, 2010.
This is the 13th year that the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) has recognized outstanding media professionals worldwide. Past recipients include pioneering journalists who have exposed government corruption, war crimes and other important stories. This year, nominations should also include how the journalist’s work has transformed communities for the better. Nominees may be from print, broadcast or online media.
In 2009, Knight International Award winner Chouchou Namegabe used radio reports to bring international attention to the epidemic of sexual violence as a weapon of war in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. She co-founded an association of women radio journalists, who are raising awareness of these atrocities. Watch a video of her work here.
Award winners receive a trip to the United States, where they will be honored at ICFJ’s Awards Dinner on November 9, 2010. Each winner will receive a $3,000 cash prize and a crystal trophy.
Submit a nomination today. For more information contact Emily Schult at eschult@icfj.org or 1.202.737.3700.
