Biography: Harry Surjadi, founder and executive director of the Society of Indonesian Environmental Journalists, has been working as a reporter and editor covering agriculture, technology, and the environment for almost 20 years. After graduating from Bogor Agriculture University, Surjadi began his journalism career at Trubus, an agriculture magazine. He then worked for the Kompas daily for nearly 10 years. In 2000, Surjadi helped develop Astaga.com, an Internet news portal. Since 2001, he has worked as a freelancer, contributing to various other outlets. He also wrote a chapter about Indonesia for the 2004 book "Climate Change: Perspective Five Years After Kyoto." Since 2004, Surjadi has conducted dozens of workshops for journalists and non-governmental workers throughout Indonesia. He also has also served as a communications specialist for international organizations and the Indonesian government, and taught courses in online communication at Pelita Harapan University. He is working toward a master's degree at the University of Indonesia’s Faculty of Social and Political Sciences.
