Project Goal: Will help television journalists develop issue-oriented coverage that resonates and is broadcast across borders to help heal sectarian and national tensions that splinter and roil the region.

Biography: Mariam Sami, a media consultant based in Cairo, has worked for news outlets throughout the Middle East. Most recently, Sami worked at Al-Jazeera English, where she oversaw story assignments and the production process of one of the network's weekly programs. She was an editor at two Dubai-based newspapers, Emirates Today and the Gulf News, and worked as bulletin editor at Dubai TV's The Business Channel. In the 1990s, she spent nine years as a Middle East correspondent for The Associated Press.


Sami was granted a Reuters Foundation Fellowship in 2005 at Oxford University's Green College. As an Alfred Friendly Press Fellow in 1997, she wrote for the City section of The New York Times.


She holds a BA in English literature from El-Mansoura University, and an M.A. in journalism and mass communications from the American University
in Cairo. Sami is fluent in Arabic, English and Serbo-Croatian.
