To provide critical training to Guinea’s first privately licensed radio stations on covering upcoming democratic elections and holding elected officials accountable to citizens. The Knight International Journalism Fellow will assist local journalists to provide accurate and credible information that can provide a foundation for free and fair elections and ongoing political coverage in a country just emerging from conflict.
Vianney Missumbi, has worked for more than 15 years as a radio journalist and media-development expert in several African countries. The Knight International Journalism Fellowships program’s first African Fellow, Missumbi is a native of Congo (DRC). Missumbi worked for the United Nations radio in Congo (Radio Okapi/Foundation Hirondelle) and in Côte D’Ivoire (ONUCI FM). He was also a radio producer and reporter for magazines focusing on post-conflict development, the resolution of conflict, and humanitarian issues. In the 1990s, Missumbi worked in the Democratic Republic of Congo as a producer at RAGA FM, a partner of the BBC and the VOA. Most recently, he coordinated West Africa media programs in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Cote D’Ivoire for the NGO Search for Common Ground, a non-governmental organization.
