Creating a Network of Business Journalists to Track Corruption

Knight International is creating a network of highly skilled business journalists in Serbia and elsewhere in Southeastern Europe to cover important economic stories including corruption. Knight Fellow Miodrag Savic, a print, broadcast and multi-media journalist, is training the journalists to use databases, financial reports and other sophisticated tools to track links between government and business.
Knight International Journalism Fellow Miodrag Savic discusses his plan to improve business journalism at the Beta News Agency and create a network of journalists to track corruption in Serbia.

His work comes at an important time as Serbia moves toward European Union membership and away from government control of the economy. Savic will also establish links between his Serbian trainees and business journalists in other Balkan countries, creating a network that can cover important cross-border stories of corruption and economic ties. ICFJ’s partner is the Beta News Agency, the largest independent news agency in the Balkans.
